Araki Annex stands quietly on a small hill embraced by the sea breeze.
Overlooking the port town of Akaogi, it reopened in 2023 as a rebranded inn,
carrying on a grandfather's wish after a temporary closure.
The nature nurtured by Tanegashima's land and sea,
the handicrafts passed down by island artisans,
and a free stay that respects each traveler's time.
Shaping these three elements into "an inn that gently connects past and future"
was the beginning of Araki Annex.
We want more people to discover the charm of our hometown, Tanegashima —
a long-cherished wish we want to share with every visitor.

History of Tanegashima

Since ancient times, embraced by the Kuroshio Current,
many travelers have arrived on this island as if guided by the wind.
Tanegashima is known as the place where firearms were first introduced to Japan.
That news is said to have moved Japanese history and opened the door to civilization.
The castle town of Akaogi, spreading to the north of the island,
once thrived as a port of trade and culture,
and still quietly retains that atmosphere today.
